Councillor Joanna Strathdee: an appreciation

SALMOND IN TRIBUTE TO "EXCEPTIONAL COUNCILLOR AND EXTRAORDINARY HUMAN BEING"

Alex Salmond MP (Gordon) MSP (Aberdeenshire East) has paid a warm tribute to Councillor Joanna Strathdee who died yesterday after a long battle with cancer.

He said:

“Joanna was an exceptional councillor and an extraordinary human being. Totally dedicated to her beloved town of Huntly, she gave unstinting support to her community and party.

“I'm proud to say that Joanna was my proposer in the recent general election and in my forthcoming published election diaries I attribute the remarkable support the SNP enjoyed in Huntly to the high regard in which she was held as local councillor.

“I called in to see Joanna recently at Aberdeen Royal Infirmary and instead of finding her in the ward I met her being wheeled out into an ambulance as she was totally determined to get back to Huntly for the weekend. This was a lady of courage and conviction and she will be missed by family, friends and colleagues to whom she was a constant source of inspiration.”
