SALMOND VISITS HUNTLY FC TO DISCUSS HIGHLAND LEAGUE STAR SUFRACE DEBUT

MP for Gordon, Alex Salmond, met with the Deputy Chairman of Huntly FC Gordon Carter to discuss the club's ongoing initiative to bring the first 3G UEFA 2 Star synthetic football pitch to the Highland League.

Travel time from Huntly to Astro-turf pitches in Inverurie, Banff and Buckie can be approximately  30 to 45 minutes dependant on traffic and weather conditions.

If the plans are realised, the facility at Christie Park in Huntly will not only be for the use of football club, but for other sporting clubs in the town and the surrounding area.

With the new surface, which is playable in all weather conditions, the update would create a sporting hub in the local community which would have the capability of being utilised on a year round basis.

Sporting advocate Mr Salmond said:

‘‘This is an excellent venture which I’m supportive of. It will provide a first class sporting facility in the heart of rural Aberdeenshire which many of my constituents will have access to and will without doubt put Huntly on the sporting map."
