MP for Gordon, Alex Salmond, has issued a call to constituents to put forward their own local heroes for the 2017 Inspiring Aberdeenshire Awards ahead of the February 15 nomination deadline.

The ceremony, which will take place in June at Haddo House, covers ten award categories, including a ‘Best Of’ honour for each of Aberdeenshire’s six administrative areas: Banff and Buchan; Buchan; Formartine; Garioch; Kincardine and Mearns; and Marr.

Aberdeenshire provost, Cllr Hamish Vernal, was joined by pupils of Banff Academy in promoting the awards, which aim to see local residents achieve recognition for everyday heroics within their communities.

Mr Salmond commented:

"Within our communities there are those who consistently go above and beyond for their friends and neighbours. This may be by way of making sure their shelves are stocked, feeding the cat or helping with the school run.

"However, the reality is that even small acts of community spirit can have a huge impact on people's lives, and there are those who go even further in helping those in need.

"Our communities rely on people like these, and their exploits are often unheralded. I have no doubt that it won't take long for each and every person across Aberdeenshire to think of someone worthy of nomination for this award.

"With the close of nominations just around the corner, there has never been a better time to see your own local hero get the recognition they deserve."
