SALMOND HAILS THE INDIAN FLAVOUR AT THE HEART OF INVERURIE
LOCAL MP CONGRATULATES THE GORDON WINNERS AT THE 2017 BEST CURRY AWARDS
Alex Salmond has today congratulated three Inverurie-based restaurants who starred at this year’s Best Curry Awards - an annual cuisine competition showcasing some of the best restaurants in the City and Shire.
The audience of 350 at Aberdeen's Hilton Double Tree saw Sabai, based at the Garioch Centre, win “Best Thai Takeaway in City and Shire” and Shahi Darbar, on Elphinstone Road, pick up the award for “Best Newcomer”.
One of the big winners on the night was the team at Rajpoot, who walked away with two awards. – “Best Indian Restaurant in Aberdeenshire” and “Overall Best Restaurant in Aberdeen and Shire”.
The list of finalists also included the Spice Of Life in Inverurie and Indian On The Green in Ballater.
Commenting Mr Salmond said:
“I regard myself something of an expert in this field, having sampled such dishes all over the world for Scotland, and I see it as my duty as a curry connoisseur to support competitions like the Aberdeen Curry Awards.
“In the North-east, we are spoilt for choice when it comes to eating out, so it is excellent to see not one, but three, restaurants from our constituency of Gordon take home well-deserved gongs from this year’s event.
“Before the awards, I made a personal promise to sample every nominated restaurant, so I am very much looking forward to getting started in Inverurie in the very near future.”
